Knossos Palace and Lasithi Plateau
Visiting Crete, Greece’s largest island, offers a journey through stunning landscapes, ancient history, and vibrant culture. The island is rich in highlights, each offering a unique experience. Start with Knossos Palace, the legendary seat of King Minos and the heart of Minoan civilization, just outside Heraklion. This archaeological site offers a fascinating glimpse into Europe’s oldest advanced civilization, complete with frescoes, throne rooms, and intricate architecture.
Join us on a fascinating journey through the world of Cretan olive oil, where tradition meets modernity. At the family-run olive oil factory, you’ll have the chance to explore every step of the production process, from tree to bottle.
One of the iconic features of the Lasithi Plateau is its traditional windmills, which were once used to pump water for irrigation. Though many are no longer in operation, they remain a striking symbol of the plateau and its agricultural heritage. On your tour, you’ll stop to admire these picturesque windmills and learn about their role in the region's history.
Explore the ancient craft of pottery in the heart of LasithiPlateau, where tradition and artistry come together. Visiting a local pottery workshop offers a unique glimpse into the island’s rich history and vibrant culture, dating back thousands of years to the Minoan civilization. Watch skilled artisans shape clay into beautiful, functional pieces, using techniques passed down through generations. You’ll have the chance to see the entire process, from molding and carving to firing in traditional kilns. Many studios offer interactive workshops, allowing visitors to create their own keepsakes — a perfect way to immerse yourself in the Cretan way of life. Take home more than just memories by purchasing handcrafted ceramics, from intricately painted vases to everyday tableware, each piece reflecting the island’s natural beauty and artistic heritage.
Next stop is at the village of Mesa Lasithi. We'll stop in a traditional caffe to drink a Greek coffee combined with homemade cookies and raki.
