According to tradition, the church was built on the site of the saint's birth in 1195 and is dedicated to Saint Anthony of Lisbon. The church is classified as a national monument. Built in 1147, the cathedral survived a powerful earthquake in 1755. You can visit the theater, which consists of Roman ruins discovered under the rubble of the great earthquake of 1755.

This romantic terrace by the Church of Santa Luzia introduces visitors to Alfama with stunning views of its houses, churches and the Tagus River. This observation deck is, in fact, one huge balcony over the ancient district of Alfama. It is one of the most beautiful and ancient areas of the Portuguese capital, whose population increased after the devastating earthquake of 1755, when it became part of the (now extinct) parishes of Santo André and Santa Marinha.

Miradouro da Señora do Monte (Our Lady of the Hill) overlooks Lisbon and is the city's highest viewpoint, or miradouro. This location means it offers an uninterrupted 250 degree panoramic view of Lisbon from the stunning old quarters and castle to the city center and beyond. The church or monastery of San Vicente de Fora, meaning "Monastery of Saint Vincent Outside the Walls", is a 17th century church and monastery in the city of Lisbon. This is a beautiful and unique church that is the national pantheon of Portugal and the last burial place of many important Portuguese people.  Alfama is the oldest and most authentic district of Lisbon.
