Sightseeing in Pisa

The whole sightseeing catalogue of Pisa fits into three hours: there are no longer programmes here. The reason is size — the Field of Miracles with its cathedral, baptistery, campanile and cemetery stands on a single square, and walking round it takes an hour. The cheapest entry is a fifty-minute quest at 12 dollars, with tasks arriving on the phone.

The walking programmes differ in what the price covers. A two-hour walk through the city costs 31 dollars without tickets, a ninety-minute route around the cathedral and the leaning tower 51, and the all-inclusive two-hour version 78. The three-hour option with the tower climb costs 96 dollars: 294 steps lead up a spiral staircase inside the wall.

The upper bound is the programme with skip-the-line entry to the cathedral and the tower: two hours at 105 dollars. Standing apart is a tour with a wine tasting and a tower ticket at 86 dollars. The campanile began to lean while still under construction in the twelfth century because of the soft ground, and the tilt was stabilised by works completed in 2001.
