This tour focuses on visiting the two main archaeological sites in the region: Pompeii and Herculaneum, the ancient Roman cities swept away by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD Considered of great importance to the Roman Empire , they were at their social and economic peak at the time of the disaster. The main difference between the two places is that Pompeii was a lively city, a gateway for traders and travelers, while the latter was more a residential village for aristocrats and intellectuals.

Included on this tour is only round-trip transportation to the two sites.

Ablauf

Departure from meeting point. Departure from meeting point, Pic Nic bar kiosk at Naples port (Molo Beverello) @8.30am

Pompeii ruins. After departure we'll reach Pompeii ruins where our assistant will wait for you till the end of the visit.At the time of the dramatic eruption, Pompeii counted about 11.000 inhabitants, while Herculaneum had a population of some 5.000 people. A number of emperors and aristocrats had their holiday villas in these cities. One day, in 79 AD, several meters of ashes buried the whole area in a matter of few hours. Centuries later, in 1748, under the Bourbons government, excavation works started. The discovery was greeted with enthusiasm as it added great wealth to the kingdom and inspired the neoclassicism movement in Europe. Nowadays, the ruins of Pompeii are amongst the most visited archaeological sites in the world, while Herculaneum is renewed for its Villa dei Papiri containing a library of over 1800 papyruses. Included in this tour there is only the round trip transportation.

Time for lunch. After Pompeii visit on your own, free time for lunch (not included)

Herculaneum ruins. After Pompei and the stop for free time, we'll reach Herculaneum where we'll have another 1h 30 mins stop to allow you to visit it on your own.

Please wear comfortable clothes and shoes, because the path is totally outdoor. Do not forget hats and sunscreens during hot days and umbrella during rainy daiìys. The ground inside the excavations is uneven so the tour is not recommended to people with walking difficulties.Take your camera with you to keep unforgettable memories.
