The Atlas Mountains and Merzouga Desert. 3-day Private Tour
Day 1. Marrakesh, the Atlas Mountains, Aït Benhaddou, Ouarzazate, the Dadès valley.
You will be picked up at 7.30AM from your hotel, riad or any other location of your choice, beginning the 3-day Merzouga desert tour from Marrakesh. You will cross Tizi n'Tichka pass of the Atlas Mountains at the altitude of 2260 meters, enjoying the mountainous road and the spectacular Berber villages, and visit Aït Benhaddou, a ksar (fortified village) and UNESCO World Heritage Site. Featuring beautiful kasbahs (citadels), it has served as a natural backdrop for many movies, including Gladiator, Alexander, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, The Mummy, as well as the TV series Game of Thrones and O Clone. You will walk around with a local guide, crossing the Ounila River to the other side, climbing to the top of the hill through the alleys of Aït Benhaddou and observing the breathtaking view of the river valley, desert and snow-capped Atlas Mountains in the background. After lunch, you will continue to the Dadès Gorges, a series of rugged wadi gorges carved out by the Dadès River, passing through Ouarzazate, Skoura and a long valley of roses (the rose season is in late May). After you arrive at Boumalne Dades, you will take a secondary road, heading up through the Dadès Gorges. During the sunset, you will see beautiful rock formations that are called the Monkey Feet and fortified kasbahs along the Dadès River. Then, you will stop at the canyons for a drink and to admire the majestic scenery, head to your hotel and have dinner.
Day 2. The Dadès valley, the Todgha Gorges, Erfoud, Rissani, Merzouga.
The tour will continue after a traditional breakfast, and the guide will take you past 1000 kasbahs and the colorful Berber villages of the Dadès valley to get to Tinghir. Filled with date palms, the valley stretches for 15 kilometers and ends with the Dadès Gorges that are often used for rock climbing. You will take the road to the Todgha Gorges that passes through green palm groves and Berber villages and set on a trek along the canyons at an altitude of 300 meters. Afterwards, you will head to Erg Chebbi, a large sea of dunes formed by wind-blown sand, located in Merzouga region in the Sahara Desert. Prior to arriving on location, you will have lunch in Tinejdad or Touroug. A bit of off-road will take you to the edge of the golden dunes where camels will be waiting. Your luggage will be loaded in a 4×4 vehicle and transported to the camp, while you will enjoy a thrilling camel ride over the sand dunes and watch the majestic Sahara sunset on your way to the camp. After reaching your destination, you will be welcomed with tea. You will settle and rest in beautiful comfortable private tents equipped with bathrooms and showers and then have dinner. After a delicious meal, a fire will be lit under the starry night sky, and you will listen to live music played by the staff.
Day 3. Merzouga, Alnif, Tazarine, Agdes, Marrakesh.
You will wake up early to see the sunrise over the highest dunes of Erg Chebbi. You will have breakfast at the camp, pack and go back on camels or by 4×4, leaving the dunes behind. Then, you will drive to Marrakesh through Alnif, Tazarine, the Draa valley, Agdez and Ouarzazate. In Ouarzazate, you will have lunch and take photos in front of the famous Kasbah Taourirt, a historic fortified residence complex. You will complete the tour in Marrakesh, crossing once more the Atlas Mountains and Berber villages between Ouarzazate and Marrakesh and getting dropped off at your hotel.
