60 km Snowmobile Safari with Traditional Karelian Dinner

6 hours
English, Russian

The adventure will begin 85 kilometers away from Petrozavodsk at the camp Shishki. You will select equipment, get thoroughly instructed on how to ride a snowmobile and drive to the training ground. Once you get used to the technique, you will take off along the planned route, crossing a section of a winter forest and beginning the real winter safari in the vastness of the frozen Sandal Lake. Gradually increasing the speed, you will feel more confident. You will drive up to Lychny Island and visit the wooden church of Peter and Paul, the oldest church in Karelia that dates back to 1620.

Before moving on, you will have some snacks and drink hot tea, getting treated with cranberries in sugar and fragrant Karelian pastries. As you carry on, you will see a delightful 18th century chapel on the shore of the lake. You will reach Mount Belaya and visit a partially destroyed church of the 19th century that was designed by Konstantin Ton, the architect of the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour. You will have dinner in a cozy cafe, overlooking a river and old houses on the other side. After tasting traditional soup with cream and vendace, also known as ryapushka, you will learn to fry fish on a stone. At the end of the tour, you will return to the camp and hand over the equipment.

Please note: The route of the tour can be adjusted while maintaining the components of the program. In case of adverse ice conditions, you will go to the chapel of the 18th century avoiding the lake route and see the village of Ershi and other ancient Karelian villages.
