Catacombs of Rome and Ancient Appian Way Private Tour
See old tombs and historical monuments in the fascinating catacombs of San Callisto and San Sebastiano! Take in the imposing ambiance of the Roman dungeons, a network of underground passages. The San Callisto Catacombs are the largest in Rome. They are part of the larger Callisti complex and cover about 30 hectares. More than half a million human bones were found in the catacombs, which are about 20 kilometers long, have four levels, and go deeper than 20 meters below the city's surface.
Walk along the rustic Appian Way and go under the aqueducts to see what's left of Ancient Rome. Get down to the catacombs of San Sebastiano, the martyr's final resting place. You'll even get a look inside.
A guide will tell you about the exciting history of the catacombs and how they were used to bring water to the city. You'll find out that the historic Trevi Fountain is still linked to the city's ancient water system, allowing it to receive water from the surrounding area.
