Meet your guide at the La Fenice Opera House and follow in the footsteps of Giacomo Casanova back to the Venice Carnival of the 18th century! On this fun and educational walking tour, your masked guide will tell you about the history of masks and how they were once used to hide people's identities. You will also learn how they are made.
Casanova was a great lover, an adventurer, a freemason, a big spender, and a worker for the establishment. He was born in Venice and grew up in the San Samuele neighborhood. If you follow your guide through the narrow Calle (alleys), you will see his home and the home of the famous poet Giorgio Baffo, who introduced the young Casanova to the world's pleasures.
You will learn about the Ridotto, the first casino in Venice, where Casanova and the well-known Venetian nobility often met. Learn fascinating stories about the courtesans of Venice, who also helped keep the city as lively as possible.
At the end of our tour, you will have a hot cappuccino and a Frittella, a typical Carnival cake in Venice, in a café about 10 minutes from St. Mark's Square.
