Iceland's South Coast packs waterfalls, glaciers and black sand beaches into one unforgettable day. You could see it from a crowded coach. Or you could see it like this.
This is a fully private tour. Your group gets a dedicated driver-guide and a vehicle that belongs entirely to you for the day. No fixed pace, no waiting for other passengers, no compromises. If you want more time behind the curtain of Seljalandsfoss or on the black sand at Reynisfjara, you take it. The day is yours.
You'll walk behind the falling water at Seljalandsfoss and slip through a narrow gap in the rock to find Gljúfrabúi hidden inside its canyon. At Skógafoss, spray drifts over you as a wide wall of water drops from the old sea cliffs. At Sólheimajökull an easy path leads you to the edge of the glacier, where blue ice and black ash layers meet. Then the coast opens up: the sea arch and cliffs of Dyrhólaey, the basalt columns and roaring waves of Reynisfjara, and the little village of Vík beneath its green hills.
Throughout the day your driver-guide is right there, sharing stories, small legends and practical tips about Iceland's nature, history and culture, so you don't just see the South Coast, you understand why it is so special.
Full details of each stop are in the itinerary. Pick-up and drop-off anywhere in the Capital Area, including the cruise terminals, is included. The order of stops may be adjusted on the day due to weather or road conditions.
Choose a Private Sedan for 1-3 guests or a Private Van for up to 8 guests. One price per vehicle, not per person.
Want to be in the pictures for once? Add the photo package at checkout: your driver-guide photographs your group at every stop and sends 15 edited photos to your WhatsApp within 24 hours. USD 150 per vehicle.
Pick-up in the Capital Area. Your driver-guide picks you up at your accommodation anywhere in the Capital Area, or at your cruise terminal, and after a short introduction you head east along the South Coast, past lava fields, farmland and distant glaciers.
Seljalandsfoss Waterfall. Your first major stop is Seljalandsfoss, one of Iceland’s most famous waterfalls. Here a graceful stream of water drops from high cliffs once formed by the island’s ancient coastline. If conditions allow, you can walk behind the waterfall for a unique perspective and feel the refreshing mist while enjoying spectacular photo opportunities.
Gljúfrabúi Waterfall. Just a short walk away lies the hidden gem of Gljúfrabúi. Partially concealed behind a narrow canyon, this enchanting waterfall feels like a secret discovery. Step carefully through the small gorge and watch the water cascade dramatically inside the cliff walls.
Skógafoss Waterfall. Next, visit the powerful Skógafoss waterfall, where glacial water plunges nearly 60 meters down a wide cliff. The roar of the falls and the rising mist create a magical atmosphere, and on sunny days vibrant rainbows often appear in front of the cascading water.
Sólheimajökull Glacier. Continue to Sólheimajökull, an outlet glacier of the Mýrdalsjökull ice cap. An easy path from the car park leads to the edge of the glacier, where you see blue ice, black ash layers and deep crevasses up close.
Dyrhólaey Viewpoint. Your journey continues to the dramatic cliffs of Dyrhólaey. From this elevated viewpoint, enjoy sweeping views of the South Coast, black sand beaches, and the powerful Atlantic Ocean crashing against the shoreline. The area is also famous for its massive rock arch extending into the sea.
Reynisfjara Black Sand Beach. Next, stop at the world famous Reynisfjara Black Sand Beach. From the parking area viewpoint, admire the striking contrast of dark volcanic sand, towering basalt columns, and the powerful Atlantic waves. Offshore, the mysterious Reynisdrangar sea stacks rise dramatically from the ocean, creating one of Iceland’s most iconic coastal scenes.
Vík Village. Your final stop on the South Coast is the charming village of Vík. Surrounded by dramatic cliffs and black sand beaches, this small coastal town offers a peaceful break where you can enjoy the scenery, take photos, or grab a quick refreshment before beginning the return journey.
Drop-off in the Capital Area. After Vík, relax on the drive back. We drop you off where we picked you up, anywhere in the Capital Area or at your cruise terminal.
Hallarmúli, 108 Reykjavík, Islandia
Your booking You will receive your booking confirmation right after you book. Please count everyone in your group, including children and infants, as everyone needs their own seat. We pick up and drop off at any accommodation in the Capital Area and at the cruise terminals in Reykjavík and Hafnarfjörður. Staying somewhere else? Send us a message before you book and we will gladly help. Arriving by cruise ship? We plan the start time and the route around your ship's schedule, so you are back at the port well before all-aboard time. This is a long day, so it works best when your ship stays in port for the whole day or overnight. Walking and accessibility This tour involves easy walks on uneven natural paths that can be wet, muddy or icy, so it is not suitable for guests with serious mobility limitations. The tour is not wheelchair accessible. At Sólheimajökull we walk to the edge of the glacier and do not go onto the ice, so no glacier guide or special equipment is needed. Reaching Gljúfrabúi means stepping over stones in a shallow stream. It is optional, and waterproof shoes help. Beach safety At Reynisfjara, sneaker waves can run far up the beach without warning. Please stay well back from the water and follow your guide's advice. Children Children of all ages are welcome. Parents or guardians look after their children during the tour. Warm, waterproof clothes and waterproof shoes with good grip
