Tours and Sightseeing in Maldives

The Maldives' sightseeing sits almost entirely in the shadow of the resort industry, which is a loss. The capital's Friday Mosque, built in 1658 from coral stone and carved with lacquer-work panels, is one of the most significant pieces of Islamic architecture in the Indian Ocean. The National Museum covers the pre-Islamic history of the islands through objects that include royal regalia from the sultanate period. The fish market and the local ferry terminal at dawn, where the islands' transport and food economy is visible in motion, add a living register. Local island visits outside the resort model give a sense of Maldivian community life that the atolls actually contain. Tours by locals add the missing layer. It really hits differently.
