Anne Frank and Jewish Quarter Walking Tour
Join our 2-hour history of Anne Frank guided walking tour across Amsterdam with a professional guide who will show you what Amsterdam was like during WWII through Anne Frank's eyes. The Jewish Historical Museum, the Children's Museum, the Portuguese Synagogue, and the National Holocaust Memorial are all located in the Jewish Cultural Quarter (Hollandsche Schouwburg).
Anne Frank was a well-known diarist who wrote about her daily life while hiding in an attic in Amsterdam with her family. A Jewish adolescent wrote in her diary about life in hiding during the Nazi persecution. It is currently the most well-known and often-read account of the Holocaust. Anne symbolizes the 1 million Jewish children killed during the Holocaust. The Diary of a Young Girl has sold over 30 million copies and has been translated into more than 70 languages.
Our tour consists of two distinct parts: a walking tour with a live guide and a self-guided tour of the Jewish Cultural District. Amsterdam has been home to many Jewish people since as early as the 16th century, when many Jews fled the Inquisition in Spain and Portugal. There is a museum dedicated to Jewish history and religion in the neighborhood where they settled. Over 13,000 historical artifacts and works of art make up the Jewish Historical Museum's remarkable collection. Only a tiny portion of the collection is in the permanent exhibition. Still, it's enough to get a good sense of the religion, culture, and history of Jews and Judaism in Holland.
