Khor Virap Monastery, located at the foot of Mount Ararat, is magnificent in its own right - its austere appearance of classical Armenian architecture is beautifully set off by the breathtaking landscape of the mountain range and the vast plain that stretches around the monastery rock. We will undoubtedly visit the historic dungeon inside the chapel of St. Gregory the Illuminator while on Khor Virap's territory.

The ascetic and architectural beauty of Khor Virap Monastery ("deep dungeon") is the main thing that attracts tourists to the neighborhood of Artashat, the ancient capital of Armenia. Perched on a rock in the middle of a vast plain, Khor Virap is like a watchful guardian over the serene rest of Armenia's snowy Ararat, which towers slightly away. Khor Virap Monastery is an iconic historical site for Armenia. Here in Khor Virap, the country's ruler adopted Christianity in 301 and made it the state religion.

Next on the route is the temple of Garni. The temple is considered the most important monument of ancient and pre-Christian Armenia. It is a win-win choice, regarded as the most popular route among travelers. The temple was erected in honor of the sun god Mithras. It was built in the second half of the II century by King Trdat and served as a summer residence of Armenian kings. Near the temple are the ruins of an ancient fortress, royal chambers, and a bath built in the third century.

And the last point on our route is Areni Winery. Aperitif lovers will not be able to pass by the Areni Winery. Areni is an autochthonous grape variety from Armenia. It grows in the vicinity of the village of the same name, which is one of the leading centers of winemaking in the country.
