The abbey has been rebuilt many times over the years and its current baroque appearance dates from 1702 to 1736. The abbey is a harmonious blend of intricate stucco, frescoes and rich gilded decoration that adorns its halls and chambers. The interior of the church is a visual symphony of light and colour, with the ceiling decorated with vibrant frescoes by Johann Michael Rottmayr depicting scenes from the life of Saint Benedict. The library, known as the "Pearl of the Baroque", houses an impressive collection of manuscripts, incunabula and prints, housed in magnificent wood-panelled shelves under a magnificent frescoed dome.

Grüner Veltliner and Riesling are particularly well known.
