A knowledgeable guide who has specialized in this activity for more than ten years now offers you a range of services so you can take part in this beautiful experience. The "Cerca," also known as the "true hunt," is led by a "Trifulau," also known as a "truffle hunter," with the assistance of his trustworthy and well-trained dog. Learn more about truffles and why they are so rare along the way and expert tips on how to find them.
From our starting point, the "Cerca" will head in the direction of the first available "Tartufaia" (truffle setting). The hunter will decide which route to take based on the customer's requirements. We recommend going on a hunt of this kind very early in the morning or late at night.
Among the most magical things to do in Turin, this truffle hunting experience takes you 80 km from Torino into the woods of Langhe, Monferrato, and Roero, where you visit one of Italy's most prized places. A Trifulau, a veteran truffle hunter with a trained dog, leads you through quiet forests to see how the hunt unfolds. You learn why black and white Alba truffles are so rare, get expert tips, and every truffle you find is yours to keep. Visit Turin and see the Piedmont countryside at dawn, then reach the first Tartufaia, where the real Turin adventure begins properly.
Weather shifts fast in Piedmont, so a bit of planning makes your Turin truffle outing smoother and way more enjoyable.
Turin and Piedmont have serious pop culture credentials. The 2017 film "Manhunt: Unabomber" series featured Italian countryside, while the 2003 classic "The Italian Job" with Mark Wahlberg famously ends with a chase across Turin streets, including the Fiat Lingotto rooftop. "Luca" (2021) by Pixar drew inspiration from Italy's Ligurian coast close to Turin. Truffle hunting itself hit global fame thanks to the 2020 documentary "The Truffle Hunters," filmed right in Piedmont forests near Alba. Anthony Bourdain visited Turin for "Parts Unknown," praising local chocolate, wine, and truffle culture here.
After the truffle hunt, Turin itself deserves proper attention across several days. A walking tour through Turin center and Porta Palazzo market, Europe's largest open air market, shows traditional Italy at its liveliest, packed with Piedmont cheeses, wines, and street food. For history fans, a day trip to Castello di Rivoli and Sacra di San Michele reveals medieval Italy through hilltop abbeys and contemporary art galleries. Pair these with the Egyptian Museum, the Royal Palace, and Roman ruins scattered across Torino for a rich Italy visit.
This Turin truffle hunting experience suits foodies, couples chasing unusual Italy dates, solo travelers, and small groups of friends. Culinary students, gastronomy writers, and curious travelers love the storytelling, while wine lovers pair it perfectly with Piedmont vineyards. Anyone wanting to see Torino beyond the museum circuit will find this place unforgettable.
