Itinerary:

• 9:00 AM Al Fahidi Historical Neighbourhood (1 hr): The coolest, quietest part of the day perfect for wandering Dubai's oldest surviving quarter. Coral-and-gypsum wind-tower houses, shaded courtyards, and art galleries tell the story of a city before the skyscrapers. Free entry.
• 10:30 AM Dubai Gold Souk (1 hr): A short abra (traditional wooden water taxi) ride across Dubai Creek. Hundreds of shops displaying 18k, 22k, and 24k gold in designs ranging from delicate to jaw-dropping. Prices are negotiable, and even window-shopping is a spectacle.
• 12:00 PM Dubai Frame (1.5 hrs): A stroke of architectural genius. The 150m frame literally pictures Old Dubai on one side and the modern skyline on the other. Walk across the glass-floor sky bridge for a memorable (slightly terrifying) view. Open 8 AM 9 PM, ~AED 50/adult.
• 14:00 PM Palm Jumeirah (1 hr): Drive across the iconic man-made palm island. Stop at the boardwalk or Atlantis viewpoint for sweeping Gulf views. Great for photos and a quiet stroll.
