Rome: Angels and Demons Tour Half-Day Semi-Private

The tour starts at the Church of Santa Maria della Vittoria (Via Venti Settembre), our meeting point, where you will admire Bernini's famous sculpture, the “Ecstasy of Saint Teresa”. In the novel, this is where Robert Langdon finds the cardinal branded with the word “FIRE”.

The route continues to the church of Santa Maria del Popolo in Piazza del Popolo, famous for its paintings and the Chigi Chapel, where Langdon finds the first cardinal branded with “EARTH”. Langdon had first gone to the Pantheon after misreading a clue: you will see the Pantheon from the outside while your guide tells this part of the story (the tour does not go inside).

In St. Peter's Square, the centre of Christianity, the obelisk stands in the middle of a meridian with the wind rose: on the “West Ponente” relief the protagonist finds the cardinal branded with “AIR”.

Walking through the old town you reach Piazza Navona and Bernini's Fountain of the Four Rivers, where according to the book Langdon finds the last cardinal, branded with “WATER”.

The story ends at Castel Sant'Angelo, the Illuminati meeting place in the novel, linked to the Vatican by the “Passetto”, the hidden passage once used by the popes to escape. You will see Castel Sant'Angelo from the outside (the tour does not go inside).
