Little Mermaid. The Little Mermaid is a famous bronze statue located at Langelinie Pier in Copenhagen, Denmark. Inspired by Hans Christian Andersen’s fairytale of the same name, the statue depicts a mermaid sitting on a rock, gazing longingly at the sea. It was created by sculptor Edvard Eriksen and was unveiled in 1913. The Little Mermaid has become an iconic symbol of Copenhagen and Denmark, attracting millions of visitors each year. Despite its small size, it holds significant cultural and historical importance, often being a symbol of Denmark's literary and artistic heritage.
St. Nicholas Church (Sankt Nikolaj Kirke) is a historic church located in the heart of Copenhagen, Denmark. Originally built in the 12th century, it is one of the oldest churches in the city. Over the years, the church has undergone several reconstructions, with the most recent being in the 17th century. The church's distinctive architectural style blends Gothic and Baroque elements, and it is notable for its impressive tower, which reaches a height of 80 meters (262 feet). St. Nicholas Church is known for its striking interior, featuring a beautiful altar and intricate woodwork. The church has also been used for various functions over the centuries, from a place of worship to a venue for cultural events and concerts. It is located near Copenhagen's Old Town and is an important part of the city’s religious and architectural history.
Christiansborg Palace (Christiansborg Slot) is a historic building located on Slotsholmen Island in the heart of Copenhagen, Denmark. It is an important landmark that serves as the seat of the Danish Parliament, the Folketinget, and houses key institutions such as the Prime Minister's Office and the Danish Supreme Court. The palace has a rich history, with the current structure being the third to stand on the site. The first was built in the 12th century by Bishop Absalon, the founder of Copenhagen. Over the centuries, the site has hosted royal palaces and government buildings, though much of the current palace was rebuilt after a fire in 1794 and further restored in the 1920s. The architecture of Christiansborg Palace is primarily neoclassical, with grand and impressive facades, including the striking equestrian statue of King Frederik VII in front. The palace is not only a functioning seat of government but also a major cultural and historical attraction in Copenhagen. Visitors can tour the palace’s royal reception rooms, including the Royal Stables and Royal Chapel, as well as the Throne Room and Carriage Hall. Christiansborg is also notable for its political significance, as it houses the legislative, executive, and judicial branches of the Danish government, making it a symbol of Denmark's constitutional monarchy and democratic system.
The Old Stock Exchange (Børsen) in Copenhagen is a historic building, located in the heart of the city near the Royal Palace and Christiansborg Palace. It was built between 1619 and 1640 and originally served as the headquarters of the Copenhagen Stock Exchange. Its striking architecture makes it one of Copenhagen’s most famous landmarks. The building is known for its distinctive design, particularly its copper-covered spire, which features four dragon tails twisting together at the top. This unique feature has become a symbol of the building and is a notable example of Dutch Renaissance architecture. The Old Stock Exchange was originally designed by the architect Lorentz Jørgensen and was an important center of trade and commerce during the 17th and 18th centuries. Over time, the building has had several uses, including serving as the headquarters for various government institutions. Today, the Old Stock Exchange is no longer in use as a stock exchange but is a popular tourist attraction, hosting exhibitions and events, and it remains one of the most significant historical sites in Copenhagen. The building's combination of history, architecture, and its central location near other important landmarks makes it a must-see for visitors to the city.
