The rest run on wheels: e-bike routes to Piazzale Michelangelo or onward to Fiesole, and Vespa routes that go further, into Fiesole or across the vineyards of Chianti, each with its own GPS track, commentary, helmet and insurance.

Practical. Florence sits in a river basin that traps summer heat — July and August afternoons regularly clear 34C with little breeze, among the hottest in Italy — while winters stay mild and damp, rarely under 5C. The Uffizi and Accademia tickets are tied to reserved time slots, worth booking well before the trip. E-bike and Vespa routes into the hills climb enough that the heat matters less than on the flat streets below, and helmets come with the rental. Piazzale Michelangelo gets crowded at sunset with both walkers and riders, so an earlier slot avoids competing for the same view.
