The town of Muyil offers an excellent opportunity to find a great diversity of birds. It's also the name of an ancient trading post of the Maya in the semi-deciduous jungle of the Sian Ka'an Biosphere Reserve.

At least 2 people are required for this activity to take place. Comfortable clothes and shoes recommended. You should bring a bathing suit, sunglasses, towel, binoculars, sunblock (preferably biodegradable) hat, and some cash. Please note that there are no ATM machines in the area, nor do any of the vendors accept credit cards. You will be back at your hotel in time for lunch.

In this archaeological site as well as the surrounding area you can admire birds such as the olive-throated parakeet, black-headed and gartered trogons, different species of woodpeckers and woodcreepers, beautiful Aracaris and keel-billed toucans, Yucatan, Green and Brown Jays, and much more.

Your experience starts with a walk in a small Mayan community where you can admire different types of vegetation and find an incredible diversity of birds. When it starts to get hot you will go to the shade of the archaeological site to eat a light breakfast and continue birding through the jungle surrounded by ancient temples and beautiful landscapes.

This tour gives you the great chance to identify from 40 to 80 species of birds (depending on the time of the year).
