The fortress town's terrain drops sharply from the upper squares down to the Grund district by the river, which does more to tire out a walker than the modest distances suggest. Both walks run on the traveller's schedule rather than the weather's, and either fits easily into a single stop on a longer drive between Brussels and the south.
