Lido Bike Tour: From Sandy Beaches to Film History

Belle Époque Beginnings. We’ll start our ride along the Lido’s elegant boulevards, lined with Art Nouveau villas and grand hotels that recall the glamour of early 20th-century seaside tourism.We’ll pass two icons of the Belle Époque:the legendary Hotel Excelsior, host to the world’s oldest film festivalthe elegant and atmospheric Hotel des Bains, known as the setting for Thomas Mann’s Death in Venice and once a symbol of refined luxuryWe’ll start our ride along the Lido’s elegant boulevards, lined with grand Art Nouveau villas and historic hotels that recall the glamour of the 1920s.We’ll pass the legendary Hotel Excelsior, home of the Venice Film Festival, where celebrities walk the red carpet every year.

Venice Film Festival – Where Cinema Meets the Sea. We’ll visit the Palazzo del Cinema, the official venue of the Venice International Film Festival, where stars from around the world gather each year.You’ll hear stories of red carpets, celebrity sightings, and the role this event plays in global cinema.

Nature and Lagoon Views. We’ll cycle along the lagoon’s edge, enjoying wide-open views over Venice’s skyline and the surrounding islands.We’ll stop in a hidden nature reserve, home to quiet trails and lush greenery — a peaceful contrast to the city’s busy streets.

A Forgotten Chapter – The Jewish Cemetery. We’ll pause at the Old Jewish Cemetery, one of the oldest in the lagoon, dating back to the 14th century. It’s a quiet, moving place full of history

San Nicolò natural reserve and lighthouse. After biking in a protected natural zone, we will continue along an old pier between the sea and the harbour mouth until the lighthouse. It will be a great place to see the Lido coastline and the outlines of the Grand Hotel des Bains and Hotel Excelsior.

Malamocco – A Miniature Venice. We’ll explore Malamocco, a charming fishing village with colorful houses, quiet canals, and a timeless atmosphere — often described as a “miniature Venice.”

Alberoni Beach Escape. Pedal through a shaded pine forest to reach Alberoni Beach, a quiet and unspoiled stretch of sand popular with locals.Here you can relax, grab a drink, or even take a swim in the Adriatic.

Mysterious Lagoon Islands. As we follow the southern coastline, you’ll enjoy panoramic views of three mysterious islands:Poveglia, shrouded in ghost storiesLazzaretto Vecchio, once used for plague quarantineSan Lazzaro degli Armeni, home to an Armenian monastery and cultural treasures

Return or Explore on Your Own. We’ll conclude the tour back at our starting point, or you’re free to stay and explore more of the Lido independently — including the beach, cafés, or local eateries.
