Ancient Ostia Scavi. The time includes train travel from Rome to Ancient Ostia and vice versa. Founded in 335 B.C., Ostia was Rome's major port until the route of Tiber changed, dramatically affecting the town's utility. The mud from the river slowly covered the city, perfectly preserving the town. Here are some example of what you will see: The House of Diana & Neptune Baths dispaly magnificent mosaics and examples of ancient life. The House of Diana's well-preserved floors houses frescoes depicting Roman mythology scenes. Warehouses are the shopping district of the town – an impressive array of 2nd-century edifices that could easily exist in the modern day. They wouldn’t look out of place in any 21st-century Italian city! The well-preserved Thermopolium at Ostia Antica offers a glimpse into ancient Roman fast food culture. These small rooms with masonry counters served hot, ready-made food like stews, lentils, and cheeses, and wine. A painting shows how they advertised food and music entertainment.

While there are places to buy water at the site, it's best to have your own water bottle.
