Brunelleschi's Dome – Immersive Experience in Florence

You’re transported to Florence, 1420 — surrounded by the clang of hammers, the creak of wooden cranes, and the sharp scent of fresh lime. Before you rises the most daring construction site of the Renaissance: the beginning of the Dome of Santa Maria del Fiore. For the next nine minutes, you’ll embark on an immersive journey revealing the secrets of this impossible feat. You will walk along the scaffolding a hundred meters above the ground, hear Brunelleschi himself speak of this groundbreaking achievement — including his intellectual duels with Ghiberti — and witness the dome’s ascent, block by block.

You will even admire Vasari’s frescoes in stunning 4K resolution — and you won’t have to climb the 464 steps to get there. All of this, while seated in comfort, just steps away from the cathedral itself, in the Local Based Experience space on Via degli Alfani.

Officially presented by the Opera di Santa Maria del Fiore on July 10th, “Brunelleschi’s Dome – Building the Impossible” merges technical mastery and theatrical storytelling in a ten-minute narrative brought to life by the deep voice of Antonio Palumbo, in partnership with LibriVivi. The experience spans three immersive environments — from the cathedral’s central nave to the behind-the-scenes intrigue of the 1418 competition and Brunelleschi’s rivalry with Ghiberti.
