Neither Riga walk needs a guide: a phone carries the clues, a group sets its own pace, and the two-hour medieval route and the shorter Art Nouveau one cover different streets rather than overlapping ground. The medieval walk suits a first pass through the city, following roughly the path a guided tour would take between the main churches and squares. The Art Nouveau route rewards someone who already knows the old town and wants the architecture rather than the history, moving through blocks a standard sightseeing loop tends to miss.

Practical. Expect a July afternoon in Riga near 22C, and sub-zero, snow-covered weeks through most of January and February, which makes spring and autumn the gentler season for either walk. Winter ice lingers longest on the medieval quarter's old cobbles; the newer Art Nouveau streets are flatter and clear faster, so footwear matters more on one route than the other. Rain or snow does not cancel either booking — both run on a schedule set by the traveller, not the sky.
