Meet & Welcome at Lara&Luca. Your day begins at 9:00am at Lara&Luca in Playa del Carmen, a comfortable air-conditioned restaurant where you’ll meet your federally licensed guide over a quick welcome before setting off. On our shared tours, groups are small, up to 13 travelers, so introductions are easy and unhurried from the very first minute. Arriving by car? You can leave it in the restaurant’s parking lot free of charge, safe until we return. Your guide walks you through the plan for the day and makes sure you have everything you need: swimsuit, towel, a hat, comfortable shoes and a rashguard for the turtle snorkel. Then it’s time to board our air-conditioned van and head south toward the Caribbean coast of the ancient Maya. Prefer it just for your own group? A private-tour option is also available. *If you’d prefer direct pickup and drop-off at your hotel or Airbnb, we’re happy to arrange it for a small additional cost; just let us know when booking.

The Road to the Ancient Maya. Enjoy a comfortable 45-minute ride in our air-conditioned van as we head south along the federal highway, with the jungle stretching out on one side, toward the ancient Maya world. Along the way, your guide begins sharing fascinating insights into Maya history, culture and traditions: who the Maya were, how they read the stars and the seasons, and why a city was built right on the edge of the Caribbean Sea, at a time when most great Maya cities lay deep inland. It’s the perfect warm-up for what’s coming, so that by the time we arrive you’ll know exactly what you’re looking at, not just where to point your camera. We reach the entrance of the Jaguar National Park, the protected area that now surrounds the archaeological zone of Tulum, where the next part of the adventure begins.

Step into the world of the ancient Maya. Step into the fascinating world of the ancient Maya as you explore the breathtaking archaeological site of Tulum. Perched dramatically on limestone cliffs overlooking the turquoise waters of the Caribbean Sea, Tulum is one of the most iconic Maya cities in Mexico, and one of the very few the Maya ever surrounded with walls; a fortified port that once welcomed canoes loaded with jade, cacao, obsidian and feathers from all over Mesoamerica. As you walk among its remarkably preserved temples and ceremonial structures, your guide brings the site to life with stories of Maya culture, astronomy, trade, spirituality and daily life. You’ll see El Castillo rising above the cliff, the Temple of the Descending God with its mysterious upside-down figure, and the Temple of the Frescoes, where traces of ancient paintings still survive; each one with its own story of how this coastal city became an important commercial and ceremonial center, strategically positioned between the jungle and the sea. There’s time to listen, ask questions and take in the site at an easy pace, without rushing from one temple to the next. Beyond its historical significance, Tulum offers some of the most stunning views in all of Mexico, where ancient architecture meets the vibrant blues of the Caribbean, creating unforgettable photo opportunities and a truly magical atmosphere. A perfect combination of history, culture and natural beauty, Tulum transports you centuries back in time while showcasing one of the most extraordinary landscapes of the Riviera Maya.

Getting ready for an unforgettable encounter. Sit back and enjoy a comfortable 30-minute ride to Akumal, a small bay whose name in the Maya language means “place of the turtles”; and for good reason. Along the way, your guide shares helpful snorkeling tips, safety recommendations and fascinating insights into the area’s marine life. You’ll learn why green sea turtles come to this bay to feed on its seagrass meadows, how to spot them gliding slowly along the sandy bottom, and the simple rules that keep this encounter respectful: life vests on at all times, always keeping a safe distance, never touching or chasing the turtles, and no sunscreen in the water, to protect the reef and its residents. Whether you’re an experienced snorkeler or trying it for the very first time, there’s nothing to worry about; your guide explains how to use the mask and snorkel, how to float comfortably and how to move calmly in the water. By the time you arrive, you’ll be fully prepared to make the most of an unforgettable adventure in the crystal-clear waters of the Mexican Caribbean.

Akumal Turtle Snorkel & Reef Adventure. Experience the magic of snorkeling in Akumal, where you’ll swim alongside graceful sea turtles in their natural habitat. Everything is ready for you: lockers, bathrooms and showers, plus complete snorkeling equipment and life vests, so all you need to bring is your swimsuit and your sense of adventure. A short speedboat ride takes you out to the reef, where you’ll float above colorful corals and tropical fish in the clear waters of the Mexican Caribbean. On the way back toward the beach, you’ll snorkel across the bay’s seagrass meadows, the favorite feeding ground of the green sea turtles that give Akumal its name; watching them glide slowly beneath you, surfacing calmly to breathe, is one of those moments you’ll remember for a long time. Your guide stays with you in the water the whole time, making sure everyone feels safe and comfortable, whether it’s your first snorkel or your hundredth. Important: in the rare case that weather conditions prevent snorkeling in Akumal, following Harbor Master (Capitanía de Puerto) regulations, you’ll have the option to: Visit three private cenotes instead, or. Reschedule your experience for another day.

Back to town for lunch at Lara&Luca. After an incredible morning of ancient history and sea turtles, it’s time to dry off, change into fresh clothes and settle back into the van for a relaxed ride north to Playa del Carmen. It’s a good moment to rest, look through the photos of the day and share your favorite moments with the group, while your guide answers any questions that came up along the way, from Maya history to life in the Caribbean. We arrive back at Lara&Luca in Playa del Carmen, a comfortable air-conditioned restaurant where a well-deserved meal is waiting for those who booked an option with lunch. If you booked an option without lunch, your experience ends here; you’re free to head off and enjoy the rest of your day, and if you left your car in the restaurant’s parking lot, it will be right there waiting for you.

A delicious finale at Lara&Luca. For those who booked an option with lunch, the day ends with a well-deserved meal at Lara&Luca, a charming international restaurant with a cozy atmosphere and refreshing air conditioning; the perfect place to relax after your adventure. From Monday to Friday, each week features a carefully crafted menu with three flavorful starter options and three delicious main courses to choose from, followed by dessert or coffee. On weekends and public holidays, you’ll enjoy a main course from the menu. Every meal includes your favorite drink: water, a soft drink or an ice-cold beer. Vegetarian options are always available, so there’s something tasty for everyone; just let us know about any dietary needs when booking. Take your time, enjoy the food and share the best moments of the day with your group; from the walled city above the Caribbean to the turtles gliding beneath you, it’s the perfect way to close a day that brings together history, nature and the sea. If you left your car in the restaurant’s parking lot, it will be right there waiting for you when you’re done.
