Basilica of Saint Anthony. The Basilica of Saint Anthony or “The Saint”, is a destination for millions of pilgrims every year, a romantic mixture of styles and cultures from all corners of the world.
Ghetto. To the south of Piazza delle Erbe, there is a labyrinth of narrow streets that form the Jewish Ghetto, operating since 1603 and abolished in 1797, the year in which, under the pressure of the French Revolution, Jews were declared free and equal.
Piazza dei Signori. Piazza dei Signori is one of the many squares that characterize the historic center of the city of Padua. For centuries it was the scene of civic celebrations, tournaments and a space for representing the city compared to the larger squares of Herbs and Fruits, which had greater commercial inclinations. The square is dominated by the famous Clock Tower.
Historical market “Sotto il Salone”. The Market is located in the center of the city, in a large building called Palazzo della Ragione. In the so-called Covered Market “Under the Hall”, there are several specialty gourmet shops where you can find all sorts of Paduan specialties and excellences. Here you will find butchers, fishmongers, greengrocers and many other shops selling oil, meat, cheese and much more.
Palace of Reason. The Palazzo della Ragione was built in 1218. The upper floor, called Il Salone, is a large frescoed hall, one of the largest medieval halls in the world. The building separates two squares: Piazza delle Erbe and Piazza dei Frutti, home to the daily fruit and vegetable market.
Fruit Square. Piazza della Frutta, also once called Piazza del Peronio, is one of the many squares that characterize the historic center of Padua. It was for centuries, with Piazza delle Erbe, the city's commercial center. In the two squares there is one of the largest markets in Italy. The square is dominated by the massive Palazzo della Ragione, part of the large Town Hall and the Tower of the Elderly.
Piazza delle Erbe. Piazza delle Erbe, once also called Piazza delle Biade or Piazza del Vino, but also Piazza della Giustizia is one of the many squares that characterize the historic center of Padua. It was for centuries, with Piazza della Frutta, the city's commercial center. In the two squares there is one of the largest markets in Italy. Unlike Piazza dei Signori, the scene of civic celebrations, Piazza delle Erbe was home to popular festivities. The square is dominated by the massive Palazzo della Ragione, part of the large Town Hall.
Palazzo Bo - University of Padua. Palazzo Bo, home of the University of Padua, founded in 1222, is the historic headquarters of the University of Padua. It is still home to the Rectorate and the School of Law. It is also home to the oldest Anatomical Theater in the world.
CAFFÈ PEDROCCHI. Also called the cafe without doors because it was open day and night from its inauguration in 1831 until 1916. Here you can taste PEDROCCHI COFFEE, the most famous mint coffee in the world, which comes from the perfect combination of 100% arabica espresso, an emulsion of fresh cream and mint in syrup and a powdered bitter cocoa.
