The land was previously a dairy farm that became an oil field in 1905, owned by A.F. Gilmore. The concept was a success, and permanent stalls quickly replaced the trucks, creating the iconic market that stands today. Origin: The land was originally a dairy farm purchased by Arthur Gilmore in 1880. When oil was discovered in 1905, it became the Gilmore Oil Company's oil field.
