Bologna: Echoes of the past in the Renzo Savini House Museum (English, Spanish, French)

Renzo Savini, the creator of an extraordinary collection of artisanal artifacts and natural specimens, never saw himself as a traditional collector. His approach was that of a silent seeker, driven by a personal and intimate impulse, far removed from any desire for display or recognition. 

Savini’s collection ideally aligns with the tradition of the sixteenth-century Wunderkammer, or "cabinets of wonder," which combined art and nature in displays of astonishing variety. These microcosms, inspired by an encyclopedic vision of knowledge, gathered rare and curious objects, arranged in ways meant to provoke awe and contemplation. In the 16th century, such collections emerged as a means to grasp and possess the visible universe. Savini’s trove, housed in a mysterious and fascinating home, echoes this ancient tradition—blending personal taste, a spirit of inquiry, and a subtle yearning to reveal the hidden bond between human craftsmanship and the natural world.

Recognized by the Regione Emilia Romagna as one of the prestigious “Case e studi delle persone illustri”, the Casa Museo Renzo Savini is a beacon of cultural heritage and artistic memory. It proudly belongs to the Associazione Nazionale Case della Memoria, connecting it to a national network of homes dedicated to preserving the legacies of Italy’s most illustrious figures. Furthermore, it is a member of ICOM Italia, underscoring its important role within the international community dedicated to safeguarding cultural heritage.
