Full description

At 828 metres the Burj Khalifa is the tallest building in the world, and At The Top puts you on its 124th and 125th floors. The ascent is part of it: one of the fastest lifts in service covers the distance in about a minute, opening onto an outdoor observation terrace with high-powered telescopes that let you look at the city in real time or switch to archive views of the same spot in the 1990s, when most of what you are looking at was desert. From here the geometry of Dubai reads clearly - Sheikh Zayed Road running north, Palm Jumeirah offshore, the Creek curving inland, and the desert closing the picture on the far side. Directly below, the Dubai Fountain performs on the lake, and the view from this height is unlike the one from the promenade. Allow around ninety minutes including security and the queue. Sunset slots sell out well in advance and cost more; book early if that is what you want.

Itinerary

At The Top, Burj Khalifa - Levels 124 and 125. Enter through Dubai Mall on the lower ground floor and ride one of the world's fastest lifts to the observation deck on Level 124. Step out onto the open-air terrace for 360-degree views over the Gulf, the desert and the city laid out below, then move up to Level 125 for the interactive telescopes and quieter viewing space. After dark the Dubai Fountain performs directly beneath you. Allow about ninety minutes including entry.

Entry is by timed slot and the time on your ticket is the entry window, not a guideline - arrive 15 to 20 minutes before it. The entrance is at the Lower Ground floor of The Dubai Mall, signposted At The Top; allow extra time to walk through the mall, which is large and busy. There is airport-style security screening before the lift, and large bags, tripods and selfie sticks are generally not permitted. Allow around 90 minutes in total including queueing and the descent. The observation deck on level 124 is partly outdoors, so it can be warm in summer and breezy in winter; level 125 is enclosed. Lifts and level access are available throughout and the decks are wheelchair accessible. Photography is welcome. Sunset slots carry a premium and sell out well ahead.
