You will begin the tour from 5 Wells Square, an iconic landmark of Zadar that the historians consider to be the beginning of Zadar as a city. Then, you will move on to the first public park in Croatia, Queen Jelena Madijevka Park, getting a view of the monumental Landward Gate or Kopnena vrata. A UNESCO World Heritage site along with the City Walls of the 16th and 17th centuries, it has the Lion of Saint Mark, a symbol of the Republic of Venice. Nearby, you will encounter the Church of St. Simon, one of the patrons of Zadar whose remains are kept there in a 280-kilogram gilded chest of silver and gold. The guide will take you through the main city artery, Kalelarga Street, getting to the City Square where the people of Zadar have been meeting since the 12th century. After that, you will stop at the ancient Forum and set back in time for more than 2000 years, visiting the oldest part of the city, the so-called open-air museum. You will see a large pre-Romanesque monument from the 9th century, the Church of St. Donat that is made entirely of the remains of ancient stone from a Roman temple. Near the Forum, the guide will show you the Zadar Cathedral, the largest cathedral on the Eastern Adriatic coast that dates back to the 12th century and is dedicated to St. Anastasia. The tour will end with the latest and most unique installations of Zadar, the Sea Organ and the Greeting to the Sun.
