Agiofarago Route Adventure, Greece

On the tour, you will be presented with the amazing beauty of Matala, famous monasteries and Agiofarago gorge. You will encounter many well-known wineries and visit Cretan vineyards, crossing villages that are famous for the grape varieties and their wines. Your first stop will be at Agios Thomas, a village at an altitude of 760 meters that dates back to 1371 AD. One of the most impressive mountain villages on Crete, it features magical scenery with cliffs, natural caves and lush green surroundings. In the village, you will see Byzantine churches, ruins of the Byzantine aqueduct, as well as 30 tombs from the Roman era. Going down, you will cross the Messara valley and follow the route through olive groves. Soon, you will reach the Monastery of Odigitria, a famous monastery from the 14th century. While amazed by its beauty, you will have the opportunity to visit the museum with objects of the daily life of Cretans.

Afterwards, you will follow a picturesque dirt road and get to the entrance of Agiofarago gorge, setting from there on foot. Located south of the Monastery of Odigitria, the gorge was created by the beds of two streams. Going down an easy and smooth route, you will have the chance to get close to local goats that climb trees to eat the leaves and observe vertical cliffs with caves. Your path will end at the South Cretan Sea, and, after 20 minutes of walking, you will end up on a beach with fine pebbles. The magnificent beach of Agiofaragos is the paradise of Southern Crete, and you will be able to swim in the crystal-clear water. Then, you will head to Matala, a village with artificial caves from the Neolithic Age that were used by Romans in the ancient times and then occupied by hippies in the 1960s. You will have free time to explore the caves and wander around the village, visiting its numerous gift shops. There, you will also find an enchanting beach with fine pebbles. At the end of the tour, you will return to the hotel, once again taking a beautiful route.
