Day Tour of Gjirokastra from Tirana , Albania

08:00 am departure from Tirana for Gjirokaster. Visit of the ancient village, a jewel of rare beauty, among the steep cobbled streets, old houses with stone roofs, museums and local craft shops.

The visit of the Old Town can begin from the Castle of Gjirokastra, built in the XII century owes its present form to the restructuring wanted in 1490 by the Sultan Bayezid. Inside you can visit the defensive towers, the clock tower, the church and the cistern. You can also visit the Prisons, used during the Communist regime to imprison opponents. Interesting is the Museum of Arms inaugurated in 1971 and used during the regime for propaganda purposes, wanting to show the Albanian people how the superpowers would never have been able to conquer the country that resisted multiple invaders over the centuries.

After visiting the castle and its museums, we explore the city, the Qafa and Pazarit neighborhood, the Ottoman houses and the craft shops. Do not miss the Skenduli House, an 18th century Ottoman residence located in the Pazari i Vjeter district and the Ethnographic Museum of Gjirokastra (optional)
