Full day tour to Bogova Waterfall and the Osum River Canyons, Albania

A region not yet touched by mass tourism routes, in which you can find tranquility and, why not, also experience some strong emotions in complete safety. The canyon area, which extends around the Osum river bed, can be visited by anyone without walking difficulties. Families, groups of friends, couples, everyone can find their own way to have fun. From adults who are content to be in contemplation of the waterfalls, listening to the sounds of flowing water, to young people who throw themselves headlong into the most practiced activities here, such as rafting and canyoning.

First stop: Polican, Bogova and the waterfalls

Leaving from Berat at 9 am, in about 1 ¼ hours you will reach Bogova. As soon as you leave the city of Berat you will immerse yourselves in a series of breathtaking scenes. Among green valleys, rivers, hills, small villages you will pass by. Before arriving at our destination, you will stop along the way to have breakfast. Your pit stop is in Polican, a small town that developed in the communist era, thanks to the factories that produced weapons. Reassembled aboard our vehicles, after about half an hour's journey you will reach Bogova, a picturesque village famous for its waters and waterfalls. From the center of the village you will continue on foot, to immerse ourselves in the river atmosphere. Slowly you will begin to hear a rumble that sounds in our ears. It is the sound of nature, the sound of the waterfalls that you are approaching. A magic that takes place only within a protected natural area, away from the noise of traffic and city chaos. Passing by grazing animals, crossing small wooden bridges, you will reach the Bogova waterfalls. They will not be Niagara Falls, but they have their charm! The fall of the clear water coming from the mountains, manages to transfer a feeling of wildlife to us. Furthermore, the water that slides on the rocks has created a small natural swimming pool (from a depth of about 8 meters) where, in the warmer months, it is possible to swim.

Second stop: the canyons on the Osum river

Going back on board our vehicles for a short journey, you will reach the canyon area. When you think of these places, everyone's mind goes to the American Grand Canyon. Well, maybe the landscape is different here, but the emotions you feel are just as important. You will find yourself, in fact, in an area where nature is the protagonist, meadows, forests and streams are topped by the Monte Tomorr massif, in the nature reserve that unfolds at its feet. Around the town of Corovode the Osum river (the same one that reaches Berat) forms a 26 km long gorge. In spring and early summer, when the snow melts in the mountains, the river transports large quantities of water up to this spot, making the entire circuit navigable. These canyons are unique. Moving around the area you will discover caves, small waterfalls located at the top, and paths overlooking the river. The local flora is the most secret and wild emblem of Albania. The canyons in fact represent a unique ecosystem, in which the green of trees, shrubs and herbs peeks out on both sides of the canyon, 365 days a year.
