Itinerary

Moshi to Marangu Gate. The day begins with a drive from Moshi to the Marangu Gate. After completing the park registration, you will meet your mountain guides and begin the trek. Starting Point: Marangu Gate. Elevation: 1,870m. Google Maps Name: Kilimanjaro Marangu Gate National Park Office

Rainforest Trek to Mandara Hut. You will hike through the dense, tropical rainforest. This zone is home to blue monkeys, black-and-white colobus monkeys, and various exotic bird species. The trail is well-maintained and offers a gentle introduction to the mountain. Activity: Hiking through the Montane Forest zone. Trekking Time: 3 - 4 hours (Ascent). Google Maps Name: Mandara Huts

Mandara Hut and Maundi Crater. Upon reaching Mandara Hut, you will have lunch. If time and energy permit, you can take a short 15-minute walk to Maundi Crater for panoramic views of Northern Tanzania and across to Kenya. Elevation: 2,720m. Google Maps Name: Maundi Crater

Descent to Marangu Gate. After enjoying the views and your lunch, you will begin the descent back through the rainforest to the park gate. A vehicle will be waiting to transfer you back to Moshi. Trekking Time: 2 - 3 hours (Descent). Ending Point: Marangu Gate. Elevation: 1,870m
