The Reykjanes Peninsula is where Iceland's volcanic story is still being written, yet most travellers only see it through the window between Keflavík Airport and Reykjavík. This private tour takes the time to explore it properly, and it fits neatly into your arrival or departure day.
Your group gets a dedicated driver-guide and a vehicle that belongs entirely to you for the day. No fixed pace, no waiting for other passengers, no compromises.
The day starts at Garðskagaviti lighthouse on the northern tip of the peninsula and the lonely stone church at Hvalsnes, built in 1887. At the Bridge Between Continents you walk across the rift between the North American and Eurasian plates.
On the wild south-west coast you reach Reykjanesviti lighthouse and the wave-battered cliffs of Valahnúkamöl, where the keyboard from the Eurovision film's Volcano Man scene still stands. Out at sea rises Eldey, home to one of the world's largest gannet colonies. At Gunnuhver, steam vents and boiling mud pools hiss in a landscape of dark lava, and at Brimketill the Atlantic surges into a natural pool carved from the lava.
Throughout the day your driver-guide shares stories, sagas and practical tips about Iceland's nature, history and culture.
Full details of each stop are in the itinerary. Pick-up and drop-off anywhere in the Capital Area, at the cruise terminals, at Keflavík Airport and at hotels in the Keflavík area is included, so you can start and finish wherever suits your travel plans. The order of stops may be adjusted on the day due to weather or road conditions.
Choose a Private Sedan for 1-3 guests or a Private Van for up to 8 guests. One price per vehicle, not per person.
Garðskagaviti Lighthouse. A scenic spot with panoramic views of the coastline.
Hvalsneskirkja Church. A lonely stone church from 1887, built from local rock on the windswept coast. A peaceful and photogenic stop.
Bridge Between Continents. Walk on a footbridge that symbolizes the divide between the Eurasian and North American tectonic plates, providing a rare chance to literally walk between continents.
Reykjanesviti Lighthouse. Iceland's first lighthouse was lit here in 1878. Today's tower stands on a hill above the rugged coastline.
Valahnúkamöl. Dramatic cliffs and rocky shorelines where you can feel the power of the Atlantic Ocean.
Volcano Man Keyboards. A quirky tribute to the 2020 Eurovision movie filmed in Iceland. Fun for film buffs and those looking for a unique photo op.
Eldey. Catch a glimpse of Eldey Island, home to a rich variety of seabirds, including gannets.
Gunnuhver Geothermal Area. A dynamic geothermal field, named after a ghost from Icelandic folklore, where you can see steam vents, bubbling mud pools, and experience the intense geothermal activity of the region.
Brimketill Lava Rock Pool. Witness the beauty and force of the ocean as it surges through this naturally-formed lava pool.
