Tsaghkadzor city (translated as valley of flowers) is considered to be one of the most popular winter resorts of Armenia. It is one of the places of our mountainous country, where the beauty of nature appears with its whole variety. Tsaghkadzor is situated in Kotayk region, 60 km north from Yerevan, on the eastern slope of Teghenis Mountain, surrounded with virginal woods and alpine meadows.
The city of Tsakhkadzor is the most popular sports, health and recreation resort. Until the Soviet era, Tsaghkadzor was an important health resort populated by Russians. During the Soviet period, 30 pioneer camps and sanatoriums functioned in the city. In 1967, the Main Sports Complex of the USSR was opened here, and in 1969 a cable car was built, which in 2007 was completely renovated by a Swiss-Italian company. The length of the air route is 1.4 kilometers, the travel time is 20 minutes, and the maximum height is 1234 meters. Skiers climb the mountain on the cable car. In a word, Tsaghkadzor gives its guests a unique opportunity to choose: tourists can organize a full-fledged vacation here at any time of the year, and it will always be full of unforgettable impressions.
The Kecharis Monastery, erected in the 11th-13th centuries, is located 60 kilometers from Yerevan, in the ski resort of Tsakhkadzor. The majestic temple, located on the slope of the Pambak Range, was founded by Prince Pahlavuni. The construction of the complex began in the 11th century and continued until the 13th century. In the XII-XIII centuries Kecharis was an important religious and educational center. Nowadays, the temple has been completely reconstructed, and skiers descending the slope of the mountain can see it from afar. The monastery complex consists of three churches, two chapels and a vestibule.
Sevan is a lake in Armenia; the largest and one of the most beautiful lakes in the Caucasus. This miracle of nature, adjacent to the sky, is located in a huge thicket of mountains at an altitude of 1916 meters above sea level. Its water is transparent and pure, because, according to legend, only stars and gods drank from it. In addition to cultural value, the reservoir is of great value for another reason: if it disappears, the main source of fresh water will also disappear.
The reservoir is surrounded by mountain ranges, including Sevan, Pambak, Vardenis and Gegham. This lake gained its popularity due to clean air, beautiful nature and a large number of attractions. About 1600 species of plants and trees grow on Lake Sevan, almost 20 species of mammals live, but especially many birds. Sevan is the only fishing region of the republic where valuable fish species are bred - varieties of trout, pike perch, barbel, whitefish brought from Ladoga and others.
Of the historical monuments, the most famous is the monastery of Sevanavank. The area of the lake is 1240 sq.m., and its pool is 4850 sq.m. There are 2 cities, two villages, about 100 villages, where more than 250,000 people live.
History says that the religious complex was erected by hermit monks at the end of the 8th century. From the shore of the lake to the monastery, a path was laid, ending in a rather steep stone staircase. Having overcome about 200 steps, visitors find themselves on the territory of the complex, which fascinates at first sight with its unusual architecture.
