Meet your knowledgeable guide at your meeting point, and discover the Doge's Palace, which dominates Saint Mark's Square, the heart of Venice. Once inside the Palace, walk through the rooms where the Duke (Doge) and his council decided what happened to the Serene Republic. Relish hundreds of works of art, learn about Venice's political history and Venetians, and see paintings by some of the most influential artists of the Italian Renaissance, like Tintoretto.
Next, arrive at the new prisons after crossing the famous Bridge of Sighs. The English poet Lord Byron named the bridge after the last breath of the prisoners, who had their last view of the lagoon and Venice from the window of this bridge before being imprisoned.
In the second part of the tour, visit St. Mark's Basilica, which was once the private chapel of the Doge of Venice and is the only one of its kind in Italy. Listen to your guide talk about the biblical scenes depicted on the building and the history and features of this antique Basilica. An incredible adventure through the heart of Italy is waiting for you!
