Winters turn properly cold here between December and February, often with weeks of snow on the ground, while July and August climb past 28C, so April to October suits the communist-history walk best. A driver's own schedule decides when the Plovdiv day can run, not an app, so lock it in a day or two out rather than that same morning. Sturdy, flat shoes cover both trips — central Sofia mixes cobbles with modern paving, and Plovdiv's old quarter sits on a real hill.
