The outdoor half of the Italian catalogue falls almost entirely in the south — on the coast between Sorrento and Amalfi and on the islands in the bay. The reason is simple: a volcano, a sheer shoreline and the sea are all within reach, so a single day out can take in the lot. Pompeii with the climb up Vesuvius runs eight hours at 133 dollars.
The sea line is built around Capri. Half a day swimming off the Sorrento coast and Capri costs 141 dollars, the version calling at the Blue Grotto 161, and the full day with grotto and coast 206. There is a run out to Positano, Amalfi and the Bay of Ieranto on a hybrid boat (eight hours, 235 dollars) and fishing off Capri with lunch on board (eight hours, 188).
The walking line is smaller but hard to miss: the Path of the Gods above the Amalfi Coast takes three and a half hours at 77 dollars — the cheapest entry in the category. From Ischia a boat runs to Procida with lunch (seven and a half hours, 89 dollars). GetExperience lists 91 outdoor programmes in Italy, from 77 to 763 dollars; pages state whether swimming is included and whether children are taken on board.
