Sightseeing Tour in Italy

Eight of Italy's nine family programmes are in Rome, and nearly all involve bikes. The highlights tour with views of the Colosseum and the Trevi Fountain runs three hours at 81 dollars; the same price buys the evening ride at sunset and the Appian Way route through the park of the aqueducts (four hours). An e-bike settles the question of whether a child will make it: the motor handles the climbs.

The long options are for those ready to give up a whole day. The WOW programme takes eight hours at 222 dollars: an Appian Way bike tour, lunch and a golf cart. The half-day format is five hours at 140 dollars, with skip-the-line entry to the Colosseum. Separately there is a deluxe Appian Way version with the catacombs and a traditional lunch, also five hours, 105 dollars.

Two options come without pedals. A private golf cart through the historic centre with a driver runs three hours at 163 dollars, with the children seated. A ride in a vintage Fiat 500 with a chauffeur, pizza and ice cream is three hours at 435 dollars, the priciest entry in the section. The cheapest and shortest is a fifteen-minute demonstration of Murano glass blowing at 6 dollars. Nine programmes in all, from 6 to 435 dollars.
