The self-guided offer in Ireland is, in practice, a Dublin offer: every route starts and runs entirely inside the capital, and it is worth saying so plainly. That's less a gap than a reflection of how the rest of the country is toured — outside Dublin, sightseeing runs on drivers and small coaches along the coast roads and into the west, a format that doesn't lend itself to a phone-led walk the way a compact city centre does.
The two formats sold here are the ones Dublin's own page covers in more detail: a landmarks highlights walk and a romantic puzzle trail, both phone-led with no guide and no fixed start. What's more telling at country level is what's missing — Cork, Galway and Killarney, all regular stops on an Ireland itinerary, have no self-guided route of their own yet, so a trip that continues past Dublin goes back to a driver or a coach for the rest of it.
Practical. Dublin's weather is mild and wet rather than extreme — summer afternoons rarely top 20C, winter rarely drops below freezing, but rain arrives with little warning in any month, so a route that looks fine at the start can turn wet by the second stop. A light waterproof matters more than an umbrella here. Evenings draw in early in winter, which suits the romance trail better than the family walk. Since nothing sells out, the only real planning is picking a dry-looking hour and charging the phone before setting off.
