Food And Drink in South Africa

6 deneyim

Food and drink in South Africa means wine first of all. An hour from Cape Town lie the Cape Winelands, the country's oldest wine district: Stellenbosch with its estates around the university town, Franschhoek, founded by French Huguenots, and Paarl in a valley under granite domes. A private day in Stellenbosch runs five hours and costs 106 dollars. From Cape Town the first estates are about an hour away.

Trips to Franschhoek and Paarl are built for eight hours at 120 dollars each: the programme is assembled from two or three estates with several pours at every stop, and mountain passes in between. A tasting based in Cape Town itself also takes eight hours, 237 dollars.

A format of its own is the trike route — an open three-wheeled motorcycle: a full day around the wineries costs 286 dollars, while a shorter version with stops at bars runs 223 dollars for six hours. The company's driver is always at the controls on these tours. GetExperience lists 6 food-and-drink programmes in South Africa, from 106 to 286 dollars; pages state how many estates are on the route and whether the tastings are included. Tastings are not always billed separately — check the price breakdown on the page.
