Plan your trip to Hot Air Balloons Luxor
Luxor flies more balloons than almost anywhere. The reason is the ground below them. Dawn over the west bank puts the temples, the tombs and the desert edge in one frame.
How the morning goes
Pick-up is in the dark, usually between four and five. A boat crosses the river, then a minibus reaches the launch field. Flights lift just before sunrise.
- The flight. Around forty-five minutes in the air, though the whole morning runs three to four hours.
- Below you. Hatshepsut's temple, the Ramesseum, the Colossi, and the hard line where green farmland stops.
- The basket. Shared baskets hold a dozen or more; private flights are sold separately and cost accordingly.
Weather decides
Flights need still air, and Luxor gets wind and winter fog. Cancellations happen and are not negotiable. Operators reschedule for the next morning or refund.
Practical
- Book early in your stay. That leaves a spare morning if the first one is called off.
- Dress. Cold before dawn, hot within the hour. Layers, and closed shoes for the landing.
- Landing. The basket can tip on touchdown. Follow the brace position the crew demonstrates.
- Not for everyone. You stand throughout and climb into a chest-high basket. Ask first about mobility limits.
- Check the operator. Confirm the flight is licensed and insured, and that the price includes transfers.
