In ancient times, the town was located on an island that later was connected to the mainland by a sandy isthmus and turned into a peninsula. With a history of more than 2500 years, Budva is one of the oldest towns on the Adriatic coast. During this time, it was a part of various empires, kingdoms, states, and all of them, of course, influenced its development and appearance. On the walking tour, you will see the prominent landmarks, view on the Citadela Fortress, originally known as Castle of St Mary. The fortification was rebuilt and expanded through the Middle Ages, and its stone barracks form the most prominent structure, separating the citadel from the rest of the walled city. You will head north of the citadel to a large public square, visiting either St. Ivan Church (17th century) or the Holy Trinity Orthodox church (1804) and ending the tour with a stunning view of the Adriatic Sea.
