Weekend Reykjavik Food Tour with a stop at the Reykjavik Flea Market
When doing a Reykjavik food tour, don’t you want to try out the truly authentic food from Iceland?
With our selection of local food treats you can check off a lot of things on your Icelandic food bucket list, and you sure won’t be disappointed with the quality of the restaurants we handpicked as our partners.
One of the best things about doing a food tour is getting a sense of the history of the country while eating something delicious & exciting.
All our guides are experts and graduates from the Tour guide school of Iceland, but more importantly, they know how to entertain and educate at the same time.
We meet up outside Hlöllabátar, facing Ingólfstorg Square and the two tall stone pillars. CenterHotel Plaza is to your right. Benches, tables, and a covered ceiling make it a comfortable spot to wait. Our expert local guides usually wear a light blue jacket with Your Friend in Reykjavik on the back. The meeting point on google maps:
Our 1st stop is the legendary Seabaron by the old Reykjavik harbor. Here we sample Icelandic Lobster soup, a small piece of Minke whale steak and if you are up for it ... a small piece of the dreaded Icelandic Fermented shark
Our 2nd stop if they are open is a visit to the food stalls of the Reykjavik Flea market
Our 3rd stop is the fast food institution of Iceland = The one and only hot dog stand Bæjarins Besta. This hot dog stands has been in operation since 1937
Our 4th stop is a local favourite for it´s street food style. Here we stop for their legendary and traditional lamb soup which is a hotspot for locals and tourists alike
Our 5th stop is at a local delicacy store. Here we try ourselves on a variety of traditional und unique Icelandic foods
Our 6th and final stop is a popular restaurant. Here we eat salted fish, a very traditional and delicious meal. We also have the opportunity to try our fermented Brennivin spirit - also known as "Black Death". While the name is more for show, the taste is quite "unique"! You should definitely try it out.
