Itinerary

Vatican Museums and Sistine Chapel. Your private driver will pick you up at your ship's dock and take you to Rome. You will enter the Vatican Museums overflowing with masterpieces by many of Italy’s most important Italian artists. Giotto, Bernini, Caravaggio, Raphael, Botticelli, Perugino, Pinturicchio, and many others sit alongside important works from Ancient Greece, Rome, and Egypt. You will visit the world’s most important artworks that have made art history. You will walk through famous galleries such as tapestries and maps. You will learn the secrets of The Sistine Chapel, with its enormous Michelangelo’s frescoes. Here you will have time to observe the details of his sublime “Last Judgment”.

St. Peter's Basilica. Your guide will bring you directly from the Sistine Chapel into St. Peter's Basilica's courtyard. Your guide will optimize your time by explaining all the features outside. You can take pictures (without a flash) in a peaceful atmosphere while the guide waits outside for you. It is the world's largest Church to admire Michelangelo's "Pietà" and other highlights. Just before ending your tour of the Vatican, you will enjoy the curved colonnades of St. Peter’s Square before a brief sighting of the Pope’s Balcony. Remember to cover your knees and shoulders before entering the Sistine Chapel and the St. Peter’s Basilica. NOTE: On Wednesday morning, due to the papal audience, the Basilica might be closed. In this case, the explanation will be given from outside.

Colosseum (from outside). The Colosseum, originally known as the Flavian Amphitheatre, is an iconic elliptical landmark in the heart of Rome. Commissioned by the Flavian dynasty in the 1st century AD, it stands as the largest amphitheatre ever built, once accommodating up to 80,000 spectators. Renowned for its thrilling gladiatorial contests and grand public spectacles, it remains a monumental symbol of Roman engineering and imperial power.

Circus Maximum and Palatine (from outside). Nestled between the Palatine and Aventine Hills, the Circus Maximus was ancient Rome's largest stadium, capable of hosting over 150,000 spectators—with some estimates reaching up to 250,000. While primarily a chariot-racing arena, it also hosted public games, religious festivals, and gladiatorial contests. Overlooking the stadium is the Palatine Hill, chosen by emperors to build their opulent residences—the original "palaces" that served as enduring symbols of their power.

Trevi Fountain. Hidden down the narrow backstreets of the city, Trevi Fountain is a secretive masterpiece, and perhaps the most spectacular fountain in Rome. Built at the end of one of the famed aqueducts that supplied the Roman Empire with water, this iconic setting attracts many visitors. Toss a coin into its waters to ensure a safe return to Rome at some stage in the future.

Spanish Steps. You will proceed to the Spanish Steps, one of the most significant tourist spots in the city. As you stand and admire the Church of Trinità dei Monti, which sits at the top of a famous stairwell with the Fontana Della Barcaccia at its foot, you will wonder how they were ever able to complete it.
