Full description

Apollonia, a UNESCO candidate, was established by the Pelasgian-Illyrians and has been referenced in ancient documents dating back to 588 BC. The city was notably used by Aristotle as a model in his analysis of oligarchy, due to its unique coexistence of Greek and Illyrian communities. Apollonia played a significant role as a strategic stronghold during Caesar's civil war with Pompey. It also holds an important place in early Christian history, with its bishop participating in the Councils of Ephesus and Chalcis in 431 and 451 AD. Visitors can explore the Apollonia Museum, the Shen Meri Monastery and Church, the Arch of Triumph, the Forum, the Agora, the Theater, and other remarkable sites, offering a comprehensive insight into the city's rich historical and cultural legacy.
