Full description
09:00 am. departure from Tirana for Apollonia. Arrival and guided tour of the archaeological site. Apollonia was founded in 588 BC. The city became rich thanks to trade and the port which could hold up to about 100 ships. It was considered one of the largest and most prosperous cities among those with the name dedicated to the God of the Sun, until an earthquake destroyed almost the entire city and the port, thus slowly giving way to abandoning the city. The tour continues with a visit to the Monastery of Ardenica, which became famous for being the place where the wedding of the national hero Gjergj Kastrioti Skenderbeu was celebrated with Donika Arianiti on April 21, 1451. The monastery was founded after the ruin of the city of Apollonia.
