Visit The Ancient ruins of Anuradhapura are one of South Asia’s most evocative sights. The sprawling complex contains a rich collection of archaeological and architectural wonders: enormous dagobas (brick stupas),
ancient pools and crumbling temples, built during Anuradhapura’s thousand years of rule over Sri Lanka.

Itinerary

Ruwanwelisaya. Begin your exploration at the majestic Ruwanwelisaya, a colossal hemispherical stupa built by King Dutugemunu in 140 BC. Guarded by an iconic wall of sculpted elephants, this soaring white monument is one of the ancient world's tallest structures and a deeply revered Buddhist pilgrimage site.

Sri Maha Bodhi Temple. Pay your respects at the sacred Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi, documented as the oldest human-planted tree in the world with a continuous written history. Grown from a branch of the original historical Bodhi tree under which Lord Buddha attained enlightenment, this living relic has been continuously guarded by devoted monks for over 2,300 years.

Jethawanaramaya. Experience the grandeur of the massive Jethawanaramaya Stupa, which stood as the third-tallest structure in the ancient world, surpassed only by the Great Pyramids of Giza. Built using over 90 million clay bricks, this colossal engineering marvel showcases the unmatched architectural scale of Anuradhapura's golden era.

Dagoba of Thuparama. Discover Thuparamaya, the very first Buddhist temple built on the island following the formal introduction of Buddhism to Sri Lanka in the 3rd century BC. Encircled by unique concentric stone pillars, this elegant bell-shaped stupa enshrines the sacred right collarbone relic of the Buddha.

Mirisawetiya Stupa. Explore the grand Mirisawetiya Stupa, built by King Dutugemunu immediately following his coronation. According to ancient folklore, the king planted his royal sceptre—containing a sacred relic—into the earth here, and when it became miraculously fused to the ground, he chose to construct this magnificent monument over it.

Twin Baths (Kuttam Pokuna). Admire the brilliant hydrological engineering of Kuttam Pokuna, a pair of beautifully preserved stone bathing pools used by the ancient monks of the Abhayagiri monastery. The sophisticated underground water-filtering, feeding, and pressure systems highlight the incredible practical talents of ancient Sri Lankan craftsmen.

Moonstone (Sandakada Pahana). Examine the intricate, masterfully carved Sandakada Pahana (Moonstone) located at the threshold of the historic ruins. Your guide will explain the beautiful symbolic meaning behind the concentric rings of carved animals (elephants, horses, lions, and bulls) representing the spiritual journey through life toward Nirvana.

Ayurvedic and Herbal Spice Garden. Take a relaxing sensory break during your tour. Enjoy a guided walk through a lush herbal garden to see how world-renowned spices like pure cinnamon, vanilla, and cardamom are grown, discover ancient traditional Ayurvedic medicine secrets, and sip a warm cup of local herbal tea.

Handmade Jewelry and Gem Museum. Take a fascinating break to discover why Sri Lanka is celebrated globally as the "Island of Gems." Learn about eco-friendly mining techniques used to find rare stones like the Ceylon Blue Sapphire, watch master local artisans cut and polish raw gems, and browse a certified collection of handmade jewelry.

Wood Carvings Workshop. Witness the vibrant heritage of Sri Lankan wood carving. Watch multi-generational local craftsmen use hand tools to transform raw blocks of ebony, teak, and mahogany into intricate sculptures and colorful traditional dance masks, learning how natural plant dyes are used for paint.
