Afterward, we will take a boat to the breathtaking island of Our Lady of the Rocks. According to the legend, it was built in 1452. After the Mortešić brothers found an icon of the Virgin Mary on the bay. It is said that the icon cured the brothers of illness. When the townsfolk saw this, they decided to build a church in memory of this incredible event.
However, seeing as the space for construction was too small, the townsfolk made sure to throw a rock after every visit and eventually, an artificial island was made. This tradition is still nurtured to this day and is celebrated on the 22 of July, when the townsfolk take boats to the island at dusk and throw rocks to expand the island even further.
